EU extends sanctions on Iran over alleged human rights violations
Moscow (ANTARA) - The European Union (EU) has extended sanctions against Iran until 13 April 2027 over allegations of serious human rights violations. “The Council today decided to extend the EU’s restrictive measures in response to serious human rights violations in Iran until 13 April 2027,” the Council stated in a release on Monday (30/3). In the context of the sanctions review, the EU Council also decided not to renew the list of deceased individuals. “The list now includes a total of 262 individuals and 53 entities,” the statement added. EU citizens and companies are also prohibited from providing funds to the individuals and entities included in the sanctions list. The EU began imposing sanctions on Iran in 2011 and has renewed them annually. This time, the reason for the extension of the sanctions is related to allegations of human rights violations by Tehran during the crackdown in recent unrest.
