ETLE Fine Received After Selling a Vehicle: How to Handle It
Semarang, Kompas.com - Receiving an ETLE fine notice even though the vehicle has been sold can occur because the buyer has not yet completed the ownership transfer (balik nama). As a result, the traffic violations recorded by the ETLE camera remain recorded in the name of the former owner. This situation is not only troublesome but also risks causing administrative issues such as fine collection and even blocking of the vehicle registration certificate (STNK).
So, what should be done if a vehicle that has been sold receives an ETLE ticket? ‘We understand that it will be advised later to inform the new owner to promptly complete the ownership transfer (balik nama),’ he told Kompas.com on Friday, 22 May 2026.
Therefore, vehicle owners are urged to promptly complete the ownership transfer or block the STNK after selling the vehicle to avoid administrative problems, including the risk of receiving an ETLE notice for a vehicle that is no longer theirs.
In addition, the public can easily check ETLE violations via the official site https://etle.polri.go.id, supporting apps, or police service posts available.
Vehicle owners are also advised to be vigilant against scams masquerading as ETLE notifications, especially messages that direct recipients to open suspicious or fake links.
