Jakarta, VIVA – A number of witnesses were called to testify at the ethics hearing of Brimob (Mobile Brigade) officer Bripda Masias Siahaya in connection with the assault of a state Islamic secondary school (MTsN) student in Southeast Maluku, Arianto Tawakal (14), who died as a result, and the assault of his older brother Nasrim Karim (15), on Monday, 23 February 2026.

Maluku Regional Police public relations chief Kombes Rositah Umasugi said some witnesses appeared in person, namely fellow Brimob members.

“The witnesses examined directly in the hearing room were nine Brimob members and the surviving victim, Nasri Karim Tawakal,” Rositah told reporters.

Meanwhile, four other witnesses were examined via Zoom video conference from Tual Police station.

“The four witnesses comprised one traffic unit officer, one criminal investigation unit officer, and two family members of the victims,” Rositah explained.

Rositah further disclosed that the National Police code of ethics commission hearing was held in the Professional and Security Division (Propam) hearing room at Maluku Regional Police headquarters at approximately 14:00 Eastern Indonesian Time (WIT).

“The hearing was chaired by Maluku Regional Police Propam chief Kombes Pol Indra Gunawan as commission chairman. Also present in the hearing room were external observers from the Maluku provincial secretariat of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), the head of the Maluku provincial Women and Children Protection technical unit (UPTD PPA), and the director of the Women and Children Empowerment Circle Foundation,” Rositah said.

Rositah affirmed that the criminal investigation would subsequently be handled by Tual Police and would proceed after the ethics hearing.

“It is scheduled that, following the ethics hearing verdict, criminal proceedings will immediately continue at Tual Police,” she said.

Previously, National Police Mobile Brigade Corps commander Komjen Pol Ramdani Hidayat spoke publicly about his subordinate, Bripda Masias Siahaya, who was named a suspect after fatally assaulting the MTsN student Arianto Tawakal (14) in Southeast Maluku and also assaulting his older brother Nasrim Karim (15).

The three-star police general stressed that he would show no tolerance towards members who commit violations.

“The matter has rightly been elevated to and handled by Maluku Regional Police so that the process can proceed more swiftly and transparently. We do not tolerate violations by our members. The legal process and firm, severe sanctions are entirely appropriate,” Ramdani told reporters.

Ramdani added that his office would continue to evaluate its members in the context of delivering public services to the community.
