REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has stated that Iran’s reopening of the Strait of Hormuz represents a signal of easing global geopolitical tensions. This development brings optimism regarding the stabilisation of the world’s energy supply.

The Indonesian government has responded positively to the move, as the strategic route is now open again for international commercial shipping. Risks of disruptions to global energy distribution are beginning to decrease.

“The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is a very positive development for the stability of the global energy supply, including for Indonesia. It provides certainty for energy distribution routes that were previously disrupted due to geopolitical dynamics,” said ESDM spokesperson Dwi Anggia in Jakarta, quoted on Saturday (18/4/2026).

She explained that the government has prepared anticipatory measures since the beginning to address global uncertainties. These steps include strengthening national stockpiles and diversifying energy sources. Such efforts have kept national energy resilience stable when distribution routes were disrupted due to Middle East regional dynamics. The government ensured that domestic supply remained secure during the period of uncertainty.

“With the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, pressure on the global supply chain is beginning to ease, including on the movement of world oil prices, which are showing a downward trend,” Anggia stated.

Iranian authorities previously announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to all international commercial shipping. This decision aligns with developments in the regional situation showing a decrease in escalation. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi affirmed that the shipping route has been fully reopened to all commercial vessels.

“In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the route for all commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz is declared fully open,” Abbas said.

The global market response is evident in the significant decline in oil prices. This condition reflects the easing of concerns over disruptions to the world’s energy supply. The Strait of Hormuz has long been a vital route for global oil and gas distribution, determining the smoothness of the international energy supply chain.

The Ministry of ESDM is also continuing to coordinate efforts so that Pertamina-owned vessels that were previously detained in the area can soon pass through. The government is opening communication channels with relevant authorities. “The government continues to make negotiation efforts so that Indonesian-owned vessels can pass through. There has previously been a positive signal from the Iranian government regarding this. We hope the shipping process will gradually return to normal,” Anggia said.

The government continues to monitor global developments and prepare responsive measures. This is to maintain the stability of domestic energy supply.
