ESDM Records 4,892 Four-Wheeled EV Charging Stations as of May
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has recorded that the number of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) for electric cars in Indonesia reached 4,892 units as of May 2026.
“As of May 2026, the number of four-wheeled SPKLU in Indonesia has reached approximately 4,892 units. The growth target for four-wheeled SPKLU in 2030 is 62,918 units,” stated Ferry Triansyah, Coordinator of Electricity Business Services at the Directorate General of Electricity, Ministry of ESDM, quoted from the ministry’s official website in Jakarta on Friday.
The Ministry of ESDM, he said, continues to promote the electric vehicle ecosystem through the addition of SPKLU.
This initiative is not only part of efforts to reduce emissions and protect the environment but also has positive impacts on energy security, particularly in reducing imports and subsidies for petroleum fuel (BBM).
Concrete steps to accelerate electric vehicles are being taken through collaboration on developing charging infrastructure for battery electric vehicles (KBLBB) in three pilot provinces: DKI Jakarta, West Java, and Bali.
In addition to the pilot projects, the ENTREV project has been replicated in six cities across six provinces: Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Medan, Makassar, Banjarmasin, and Serang (Banten).
According to Ferry, the ENTREV project has conducted socialisation of KBLBB in those six cities and is currently organising training and certification for vocational high school (SMK) students.
Aretha Aprilia, Head of the Environment Unit at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Indonesia, stated that geopolitical dynamics and disruptions to the global energy supply chain serve as reminders that the transition to electric vehicles is not only for environmental protection but also a strategic step towards achieving national energy independence.
“The ENTREV project has played a very important role as an enabler and catalyst, and allow us to note that in the first quarter of 2025, this project underwent a Mid-Term Review (MTR), where the MTR affirmed that the ENTREV project remains highly relevant to Indonesia’s national electric vehicle transition goals,” said Aretha.
ENTREV is a cooperation programme between the Indonesian Government through the Ministry of ESDM and UNDP to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles.
The programme aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through strengthening the electric vehicle ecosystem and building SPKLU in Indonesia.
