Es Teler opens in Malaysia

JAKARTA (JP): Es Teler 77, a local fast food chain specializing in meatball soup and tropical fruit drinks, will open a franchise in Penang, Malaysia, in September following the success of its Singapore venture.

A memorandum of understanding was signed on Aug. 16 by Es Teler 77 founder Sukyatno Nugroho and Penang franchise-holders Park Mei Yoke and Slew Swee Kit, the company announced on Wednesday.

Under the agreement, an outlet will open in the Malaysian resort island at the end of September, and two more are set to operate before the end of 2000.

Sukyatno's first foreign franchise in Singapore was honored by the island-state's environment ministry for cleanliness and hygiene in July.

Sukyatno said he hoped to open an outlet in Brunei in November. (02)
