Eradicating evil in the courts

I agree completely with the abolishment of the legal mafia as
advocated by Satjipto Rahardjo in Kompas last month.

As a distinguished professor of law, he should know what he's
talking about.

The professor's statement should receive the full support of
the judiciary and all the institutions concerned. Those involved
in judicial work should not blame each other for the legal mafia
continuing to exist.

In its 60 years of existence as an independent country,
Indonesia has yet to reform its judicial system and purge the
said mafia from it. The corruption in the system is still
widespread and every party has a role to play.

The Ministry of Law and Human rights and the Supreme Court are
surely well aware of the existence of graft, so why have they
done little or nothing to stop it? All parties have been very
slow in dealing with this pervasive evil.
