Eradicating evil in the courts<\/p>\n
I agree completely with the abolishment of the legal mafia as
\nadvocated by Satjipto Rahardjo in Kompas last month.<\/p>\n
As a distinguished professor of law, he should know what he's
\ntalking about.<\/p>\n
The professor's statement should receive the full support of
\nthe judiciary and all the institutions concerned. Those involved
\nin judicial work should not blame each other for the legal mafia
\ncontinuing to exist.<\/p>\n
In its 60 years of existence as an independent country,
\nIndonesia has yet to reform its judicial system and purge the
\nsaid mafia from it. The corruption in the system is still
\nwidespread and every party has a role to play.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Law and Human rights and the Supreme Court are
\nsurely well aware of the existence of graft, so why have they
\ndone little or nothing to stop it? All parties have been very
\nslow in dealing with this pervasive evil.<\/p>\n
