Epilepsy congress to be held here

JAKARTA (JP): The International Bureau of Epilepsy has selected the capital to host the 24th World Congress of Epilepsy in September 2001.

Executive director of the Jakarta Convention Bureau (JCB), Indra Sukirno, told The Jakarta Post Wednesday that Jakarta was confirmed as the congress venue during last month's committee meeting of the International Bureau of Epilepsy in Dublin, Ireland.

Indra met with the secretary general of the International Bureau of Epilepsy, Richard Holmes, during the event.

"According to Holmes, the event will attract between 4,500 and 7,000 delegates from all over the world, requiring a large amount of accommodation during the congress period," she said.

The congress will be held at the Jakarta Convention Center.

Indra said revenue from the event was projected to reach US$12.6 million, excluding airfares and other expenditures. (icn)
