Banjarbaru (ANTARA) - Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq commissioned Student Waste Sorting Activists at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) through an environmental awareness movement titled “Campus Waste, Resolved on Campus”.

“The commissioned students must carry out concrete actions in sorting waste and serve as examples for the entire ULM academic community,” said Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq in Banjarbaru on Thursday.

Environment Minister Hanif emphasised that the culture of waste sorting must become a habit for students. He added that sorting waste is a benchmark for good management. If sorted, the majority can still become resources.

He stressed the importance of waste management from the source, given that Indonesia’s waste production reaches 143,000 tonnes per day.

“This is a serious problem if not managed well,” stated Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.

Environment Minister Hanif revealed that Indonesia will produce 53 million tonnes of waste in 2025, but only 26 per cent will be successfully managed.

After the commissioning, Environment Minister Hanif continued his visit to the Faculty of Engineering at ULM to inspect environmental technology innovations, including a plastic melting reactor resulting from research by lecturers and students.

Hanif described the innovation as evidence of ULM’s commitment to developing waste reduction technology and sustainable environmental education.
