Entertainment spots closed for summit

BANDUNG: At least 30 entertainment spots in Bandung city --
including pool halls and massage parlors -- have been closed
since Friday as security was beefed up for the Asian-African
Summit.

On Saturday, delegates from over 100 countries attending the
summit assembled in Bandung to commemorate the 50th anniversary
of the original Asia-Africa Summit.

However, the forced closure was lambasted by the owners of the
entertainment spots as security personnel apparently closed some
but not others.

"Our place has been closed while others operate as usual,"
said Enny, the owner of an entertainment spot on Jl. Braga in the
city.

Agus, an official from the Bandung Tourism Office, said the
entertainment spots near Gedung Merdeka where the delegates were
convening had been closed since Friday evening.

Dede, the owner of another entertainment spot in the city,
complained that government officials had suddenly closed his
establishment without prior notice.

"Our guests were upset as they suddenly had to get out. They
had no choice but to go to other places," said Dede. -- Antara
