Energy Minister Bahlil Inaugurates Rilke Jeffri Huwae as Director General of Law Enforcement at ESDM Ministry
Jakarta, MI — Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia has inaugurated Rilke Jeffri Huwae as Director General of Law Enforcement at the ESDM Ministry, in a ceremony held at the Chairul Saleh Building, the ESDM Ministry's Secretariat General Office in Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/6/2025).
Rilke is no stranger to the legal world. Prior to assuming the directorate general position at ESDM, he served as Expert Staff for Priority Investment Sector Development at the Ministry of Investment/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).
Rilke is known for his extensive experience in law enforcement, beginning his career as a prosecutor before occupying a number of strategic positions within the prosecutorial service. He previously served as Head of the District Prosecutor's Office in Fakfak, Bangka and Ternate, before joining BKPM in 2021 as Head of the Legal Bureau, and was subsequently appointed as expert staff in 2024.
The inauguration marks Bahlil's first step in reforming the ESDM sector since assuming the ministerial position, replacing Arifin Tasrif. One of his primary focuses is strengthening supervisory and law enforcement functions through the establishment of the Directorate General of Law Enforcement.
Bahlil had previously stated that the formation of this directorate was necessary due to the prevalence of violations in the oil, gas, and mineral and coal mining sectors. He highlighted the numerous mining activities and oil and gas management operations that do not comply with regulations or technical standards.
"I believe that we are managing mining and oil and gas natural resources. There are a great many violations, both those that fall outside the proper framework and mining operations that do not conform to the standards and norms set out during initial planning. There are even cases where permits are suspected of being fraudulent," Bahlil said when announcing plans for the directorate's establishment in October 2024.
In addition to Rilke, Bahlil also appointed Ma'mun, who previously served as Head of Sub-directorate V at the Directorate of Economic and Special Crimes at the National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri), to the position of Director of Criminal Prosecution at the Directorate General of Law Enforcement.
