Jakarta (ANTARA) - Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Bahlil Lahadalia accompanied President Prabowo Subianto for a bilateral meeting with United States President Donald Trump in Washington DC.

The meeting was aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries and exploring strategic cooperation across various sectors, including energy and mineral resources.

“The presence of the Energy Minister on this visit is an important part of Indonesia’s energy diplomacy, particularly in strengthening national energy security, advancing downstream processing, and opening up investment opportunities and technology development to support domestic industrial growth,” stated a press release from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, cited in Jakarta on Thursday.

Minister Bahlil Lahadalia affirmed that the energy sector plays a central role in strengthening national industrial competitiveness and maintaining economic stability, and was one of the key focuses on the agenda of the important meeting.

“The diplomacy that the President will undertake is a strategic step to strengthen Indonesia’s position amid global dynamics. In the energy sector, we will ensure that every cooperation opportunity can support energy security and deliver tangible benefits for the national economy,” said Bahlil in Washington on Tuesday (17 February 2026) local time.

During the series of engagements in Washington, the Indonesian Government will conduct strategic communications regarding the strengthening of cooperation in the energy and mineral resources sector.

The Government also affirmed that all forms of collaboration being explored will be directed towards strengthening national capacity and supporting long-term energy security.

“We will push for collaboration oriented towards increasing investment, technology transfer, and human resource development. The principle is mutually beneficial partnership that remains grounded in the national interest,” Bahlil explained.

This move is also in line with Indonesia’s commitment to achieving its net zero emission (NZE) target by 2060 through strengthening a more diverse, efficient, and sustainable energy mix.

“Energy security and self-sufficiency are the primary foundations of development. Therefore, every future step in energy diplomacy must strengthen domestic industry and increase national productivity,” the Energy Minister emphasised.
