Private higher education institutions (PTS) in Bali are beginning preparations to implement distance learning (PJJ) or online classes for students in semester five and above. This step is in response to the call for energy efficiency from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek). The policy refers to Circular Letter No. 2 of 2026, issued on 2 April 2026. In the circular, campuses are requested to adjust learning and working patterns to respond to global geopolitical dynamics, including energy-saving efforts. This policy applies to all higher education institutions, both public (PTN) and private (PTS). However, the implementation of PJJ will not be carried out comprehensively. The Head of the General Section of the LLDikti Region VIII, Nyoman Bagus Suweta Nugraha, explained that academic activities requiring direct practice will still be conducted in-person. “For activities that indeed require direct practice, they will still be carried out offline,” said Nugraha to detikBali on Tuesday (15/4/2026). In addition to learning, adjustments are also being made to the work patterns of employees and lecturers. Lecturers are given flexibility to work from home (WFH) one day per week, while employees adjust their work patterns between on-site (WFO) and WFH. “We also give lecturers flexibility to work from home one day per week, while employees adjust between WFO and WFH,” he revealed. LLDikti Region VIII emphasises that it will continue to monitor and evaluate this policy to ensure it does not impact the quality of education. One private university in Bali, the National Education University (Undiknas), stated that it is ready to adjust its learning processes in line with the policy. “We will adjust to the situation in the learning process at Undiknas, while still paying attention to the implementation of practicums for students,” said Undiknas Rector Nyoman Sri Buwana.
