Employees sue tap water operators

JAKARTA: The opening session of a civil lawsuit filed by 1,100 employees of city tap water operator PD PAM Jaya was adjourned until next week, as the lawyers of one of the defendants failed to appear at Central Jakarta District Court.

According to the plaintiff's lawyer TB Suganda, the employees were suing PD PAM Jaya and its two international partners PT Thames PAM Jaya (TPJ) and PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (Palyja) for ignored their rights to incentives.

"The raise in employee allowances is only applied to those working in the offices. Employees working harder on the field get nothing," Suganda said.

The employees demanded the three companies pay them the Rp 57.4 billion (US$6.75 million) in allowance raises accrued since early this year, plus Rp 22 billion for nonmaterial losses. -- JP
