Employees sue tap water operators<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The opening session of a civil lawsuit filed by 1,100
\nemployees of city tap water operator PD PAM Jaya was adjourned
\nuntil next week, as the lawyers of one of the defendants failed
\nto appear at Central Jakarta District Court.<\/p>\n
According to the plaintiff's lawyer TB Suganda, the employees
\nwere suing PD PAM Jaya and its two international partners PT
\nThames PAM Jaya (TPJ) and PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (Palyja) for
\nignored their rights to incentives.<\/p>\n
"The raise in employee allowances is only applied to those
\nworking in the offices. Employees working harder on the field get
\nnothing," Suganda said.<\/p>\n
The employees demanded the three companies pay them the Rp
\n57.4 billion (US$6.75 million) in allowance raises accrued since
\nearly this year, plus Rp 22 billion for nonmaterial losses. -- JP<\/p>\n

JAKARTA: Sarifudin, 30, an motorcycle taxi, or ojek, driver,
\nwas attacked by his passenger, who then stole his motorcycle, on
\nSunday at 11 p.m. at the Navy Housing Complex on Jl. Laut
\nArafura, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The robber pretended to be a passenger and asked Sarifudin to
\ntake him from Kampung Kemang, Jatiwaringin, Bekasi, to the
\nhousing complex.<\/p>\n
When they got to the complex, the robber attacked Sarifudin
\nwith a machete and hit him in the head. Sarifudin fell from his
\nmotorcycle with plate number B 4765 GZ, and when he tried to
\nstand up, the robber beat him again.<\/p>\n
Sarifudin, who suffered minor injuries, reported the incident
\nto Duren Sawit Police.<\/p>\n
Police recovered the machete at the scene of the crime and are

BOGOR: Two gardeners were killed and another suffered injuries
\non Monday at 2:55 p.m. when a wall of the newly built Eka
\nLokasari mall in Sukasari, East Bogor, fell on them.<\/p>\n
Hendra, 35, a resident of Caringi village, Cijeruk, and
\nBuhori, 40, a resident of Curug Dengdeng village, Caringin, were
\nkilled.<\/p>\n
Nasrudin, 31, suffered leg injuries and was taken to the
\nnearest hospital.<\/p>\n
Eyewitness Jajang, 50, said the three were planting flowers in
\nthe garden next to the wall when the accident happened.<\/p>\n
"Suddenly there was a loud noise and I saw the three of them
\ntrapped under the debris of the wall. I saw Hendra's and Buhori's
\nbleeding heads, and Nasrudin's leg was crushed."<\/p>\n
Rusli, 39, the gardeners' supervisor, said the landscaping
\nproject started on Nov. 5 and was scheduled to finish within the
\nnext few days, as the mall would open soon.<\/p>\n
"Maybe the foundation of the wall wasn't strong enough," he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n

DEPOK: Cimanggis Police arrested four people on Monday on
\nsuspicion of stealing six large spools of electronic cables worth
\nRp 150 million (US$17,647).<\/p>\n
The four suspects are Muslih, 33, Agus, 36, Dumih, 32, and
\nHarahap, 38. They were arrested at their rental houses in Bogor
\nand Depok. Police have seized the cables found in their
\npossession.<\/p>\n
Cimanggis Police chief Adj. Comr. Sumaryo said the theft was
\ndiscovered on Monday at 7 p.m., when an employee of an expedition
\ncompany reported that Muslih had taken the cables.<\/p>\n
"The suspects left the container in which the cables were kept
\nin Serpong, Tangerang. But we tracked them down," he said.<\/p>\n
Muslih was ordered by the company to pick up the cable spools
\non Saturday at 2 p.m. in Cimanggis, then deliver them to North
\nJakarta. On the way, he stopped by the house of Dumih and Harahap
\nin Sawangan, Depok. The three apparently planned to cut the
\ncables and sell them to Agus, a fence.<\/p>\n
"Muslih told police that he planned to use the money to buy
\ngifts for his wife and children for Idul Fitri," Sumaryo said.<\/p>\n
The four suspects are being held at Cimanggis Police station.
