Employees, students ticketed the most

JAKARTA: In the first four days of a month-long traffic operation, officers have written 1,327 tickets, with the majority going to motorcyclists, the Jakarta Police's traffic division said on Tuesday.

Police have ticketed 587 private sector workers, 312 students, 216 public transportation drivers, 114 informal sector workers and 13 civil servants.

The violations range from not having proper vehicle documents to motorcyclists not wearing helmets.

Police have confiscated 622 driver's licenses, 683 vehicle registration documents, 18 motorcycles and three cars.

The Patuh Jaya operation, which began on Nov. 18 and will end on Dec. 21, is meant to bring some order to Jakarta's notoriously chaotic streets. -- JP
