Eleven killed in bus crash

WONOSOBO, Central Java: Eleven people were killed and 37
seriously injured in a collision involving two buses and two vans
here on Sunday, a press report said yesterday.

Police said the accident occurred at 9 a.m. when the driver of
the Jaya Indah bus lost control after the brakes failed, crashing
into another packed bus Wijaya.

The collision was not enough to stop the Jaya Indah, which
then hit a motorcycle and two vans coming from the opposite
direction, said the report.

Most fatalities were aboard the Jaya Indah, which was carrying
passengers from Semarang.

The chief of the Wonosobo police precinct, Lt. Col. Bambang
Soetiarso, said the accident was the worst to occur in the
regency in the last decade. (wah/pan)
