Jakarta - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has confirmed that electricity supply in the lead-up to the 2026 Idul Fitri holiday is secure. Indonesia maintains an electricity reserve of 4,410 megawatts (MW).

Erika Retnowati, head of the National Command Post for the ESDM Sector during Ramadan and Idul Fitri (RAFI), stated that this reserve represents 9.3% of national supply capacity of 51,608 MW.

“The supply capacity is 51,608 MW, resulting in a total reserve of 4,410 MW or 9.3%,” Retnowati said during the opening press conference of the National ESDM Sector Command Post RAFI at the BPH Migas Building in Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

Forecasts for electricity supply conditions on the national system during the Ramadan and Idul Fitri 2026 period remain secure with a peak load of 47,198 MW.

“Projections for Idul Fitri Day are also secure with a peak load of 35,017 megawatts and supply capacity of 51,967 megawatts, resulting in a total reserve of 16,950 megawatts or 48.4%,” she stated.

Peak electricity load on Idul Fitri is projected to grow 5.46% compared with the same period in 2025, though this remains 29% lower than normal days.

PT PLN (Persero) Chief Executive Darmawan Prasodjo said the company has conducted advance maintenance on power generation facilities to ensure smooth electricity supply during the Ramadan-Idul Fitri 2026 period.

“First, we thank the government for directing us to strengthen energy resilience during Ramadan and Idul Fitri 2026. We report that power plant maintenance has been conducted well in advance in accordance with the Minister’s directive, and we have also activated command posts for substations and transmission lines,” he said.

Regarding primary energy supply for power generation, Prasodjo outlined that natural gas reserves for electricity generation can sustain operations for more than nine days of operation (HOP). Fuel oil reserves also exceed nine days of operation, whilst coal supply is even higher at above 19 days of operation.

“Current conditions are therefore secure, particularly for holiday travel. We anticipate that the number of our fellow citizens travelling by electric vehicle will increase 1.6 times compared with 2025,” he noted.

The company is optimising public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU) with an increase of 1.8 to 2 times the current capacity.

“To achieve this, we are optimising SPKLU along holiday travel routes, replacing slow charging infrastructure with ultra-fast charging. We are also expanding capacity by 1.8 times, nearly reaching 2 times, so our fellow citizens travelling by electric vehicle can journey smoothly to their destinations and return home safely,” he stated.

Prasodjo also issued a reminder to holiday travellers: “Please remember to turn off electrical equipment. If you have an electric cooker, please unplug it; if you have an iron, please unplug it so that your journey can proceed safely.”
