Electric Motorcycle Trends 2026: Incentives Gone, Consumers Becoming More Rational
JAKARTA – The 2026 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS 2026) recently concluded, presenting a markedly different landscape in the electric motorcycle segment. Whereas a few years ago an entire exhibition hall was flooded with cheap electric motorcycles from numerous new brands, the number has now significantly decreased. The market appears to be undergoing natural selection, with consumers becoming increasingly cautious in their purchasing decisions.
“Cheap electric motorcycles no longer exist. The trend has been this way since 2025. The government subsidy momentum is gone,” said Rudi to Kompas.com on 28 February 2026.
Rudi also recalled that at IIMS 2024, there was an entire hall dedicated to electric motorcycles. “But at that time, government incentives failed to meet targets. Perhaps it was because established players did not release their electric models, so people were confused about investing Rp 5–6 million only to worry about repairs later,” Rudi explained.
According to him, the market is now more rational. This has meant that only players with strong business foundations have been able to survive. “The major players are still present at IIMS 2026. Looking at the electric motorcycle hall, we still see Alva, Polytron, United, and Pacific. So it’s a natural selection – those remaining in this market have solid foundations,” Rudi stated.
Despite smaller numbers, affordable electric motorcycles remain present at IIMS 2026. One of the most accessible is the Pacific Sterrato, priced at Rp 5.699 million from its normal price of Rp 12.499 million. There is also the Avand SC 122 at Rp 7.9 million, down from Rp 13.9 million, and the United MX 1200 at Rp 8.1 million, reduced from its normal price of Rp 16.8 million.
It should be noted, however, that these prices are still listed on the road without vehicle registration costs included.
This phenomenon demonstrates that the era of “cheap electric motorcycle flooding” is shifting. The market is entering a natural selection phase in which consumers prefer brands offering service clarity and business sustainability rather than simply low prices.
