Elected mayor not yet sworn in

CIREBON, West Java: The swearing-in ceremony of the elected
Cirebon mayor, Subardi, and his deputy, Agus Alwafier, was
delayed indefinitely from Monday due to the reported absence of
formal approval from Minister of Home Affairs Hari Sabarno.

The inauguration should have taken place on Monday at the
Cirebon legislative council.

"Today (Monday) there will be no inauguration of the Cirebon
mayor and his deputy though it had previously been put on the
agenda. I don't know what's the reason and when it will take
place," councillor Enang Iman Gana said.

However, he said the delay followed the fact that the council
had yet to obtain a formal endorsement from the home affairs
minister.

To prevent the mayoralty administration from grinding to a
halt, he said, an acting mayor would be installed until the
elected mayor was sworn in.

Enang said local legislators were discussing the appointment
of an acting mayor. --Antara
