Facing the significant surge in holiday travel during the Eid break, the Yogyakarta Special Region Police Civil Service head Bagas Senoadji stated that his office had made comprehensive preparations to ensure tourists could enjoy Yogyakarta’s natural beauty with peace of mind. “We ask all parties to be careful and prioritise safety,” Bagas said.

His office had conducted a readiness briefing at various beaches including Siung Beach, Wediombo, Sanden, Baron and Parangtritis with various relevant stakeholders. The Satlinmas Rescue Istimewa (SRI) team had also been stationed at eight strategic posts, including at Sermo Reservoir, to anticipate potential water-related accidents (laka air) whilst tourists were visiting.

“Education to the public is a key priority, particularly regarding the dangers of swimming in prohibited areas and the threat of jellyfish stings that often emerge during certain seasons,” he said at the Prambanan Exodus Post in Sleman on Tuesday evening (17 March).

Medical personnel had been stationed at high-risk locations to provide emergency treatment rapidly. The public was urged to always comply with instructions from field officers for smooth operations.

The Head of Transport Infrastructure Development of the Yogyakarta Transportation Office, Didit Suranto, S.T., M.T., explained that traffic engineering had been prepared to prevent congestion. “The Purwomartani toll gate entrance is temporarily for those travelling out of Yogyakarta, whilst those entering Yogyakarta from Central Java are directed through the Prambanan toll gate exit,” he said.

The Head of Commission A of the Yogyakarta Regional Representative Council (DPRD DIY), Eko Suwanto, emphasised that the government should genuinely carry out public services so that holiday travellers could reach their destinations safely.

“The Health Office could provide vitamins to maintain driver stamina. Health and safety aspects during the journey to holiday destinations are important so that people arrive safely and can gather with relatives and family at home,” Eko said.

Government Preparedness

Previously, at a press conference at the Yogyakarta DPRD Building, Deputy Head of Yogyakarta DPRD, Hifni Mohammad Nasikh reminded the government to enhance its readiness to serve the public during the Eid holiday. On the other hand, the public should also ensure security when leaving their homes for the holiday journey and maintain their stamina whilst ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy.

“The government must be ready to provide adequate health facilities along the exodus routes and in public areas,” Hifni said on Monday (6 March).

Commission A Secretary Syarief Guska hoped that security and comfort remained under control during the Eid holiday. He also highlighted the potential for violations in the field, such as illegal parking practices and price manipulation that could harm tourists.

“Cross-sector coordination must ensure that every visitor feels comfortable and protected from unofficial charges,” he said. Education regarding traffic discipline, including the use of helmets for motorcycle riders, remained a priority in this security operation.

DPRD DIY member Akhid Nuryati thanked the Yogyakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD DIY), the Yogyakarta Civil Police, and volunteers who maintained high readiness during both the outbound and return traffic periods.

“Let us use the Eid Fitr moment to sharpen awareness and solidarity, and realise the true identity of ‘Special Yogyakarta’ reflected in responsive, warm public services that ensure the safety of all residents and holiday travellers,” Akhid concluded.
