Eid Return Traffic Still Ongoing, 42 Percent of Vehicles Yet to Enter Jakarta
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Around 42 percent of homecoming vehicles have not yet returned to Jakarta during the Eid return traffic in 2026. This figure indicates that vehicle movements towards the capital will continue for several days ahead.
Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Agus Suryonugroho stated that this situation remains a serious concern for authorities.
“Based on projections, there are still 42 percent of vehicles that have not entered Jakarta. We are still managing this, even though Operation Ketupat has ended; police activities continue to be intensified,” Agus said in a written statement on Thursday (26/3/2026).
“All personnel are still in the field to secure the return traffic. Community activities in the regions remain high and have the potential to trigger a follow-up return traffic peak,” Agus added.
The peak of the second wave return traffic is estimated to occur on 29 March 2026. With nearly half of the total homecoming vehicles yet to return to Jakarta, intensive security scenarios continue to be implemented.
Amid the still high volume of vehicles moving towards Jakarta, positive achievements are evident in terms of safety.
Data from the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps shows that the number of fatalities during this year’s homecoming and return traffic period has dropped significantly by 30.41 percent, or 104 people fewer, from 342 victims in 2025 to 238 in 2026.
A decline was also recorded in the national traffic accident rate, down 5.31 percent from 2,880 incidents to 2,727 this year. Moreover, no prominent accidents were recorded during the period.
