Eid Return 2026: 480,000 Vehicles Yet to Return to Jakarta
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the Eid return traffic in 2026 still has vehicles from holidaymakers that have not yet returned to Jakarta as of Wednesday (25/3/2026) afternoon.
Based on the data provided, the total number of vehicles leaving the capital region during the outbound holiday period reached 2,521,229 units, while only around 2,040,000 units have returned so far.
Thus, from that difference, approximately 480,000 vehicles have yet to return.
“There is a record of approximately 1,958,838 vehicles entering. And just now we checked again at 12:00 WIB, there were 82,000, so the total is approximately 2,040,000 that have entered Jakarta,” said Sigit in his statement, quoted by polri public relations, on Wednesday.
During the peak of the first return wave, 256,338 vehicles were recorded entering Jakarta and its surroundings, an increase compared to the previous year’s figure of 223,163 vehicles.
“This means we see that the peak return traffic roughly occurred last night; now we just need to manage the rest,” Sigit remarked.
“That is our homework to address in activities related to the peak return traffic,” he added.
To maintain the smooth flow of return traffic, the National Police, along with relevant parties, continue to implement various traffic engineering measures, such as the one-way system, up to contraflow.
In addition, the police are anticipating the potential for a second return wave, given that some people are delaying their return journeys.
Meanwhile, although Operation Ketupat 2026 has ended, security measures are being continued through enhanced routine activities to ensure that the Eid return traffic runs safely and smoothly until all holidaymakers return to Jakarta.
