Tangerang - Soekarno-Hatta Customs, together with the Airport Police Resort’s Narcotics Unit, uncovered two attempts to smuggle narcotics, specifically MDMA mixed with cocaine in powder form and etomidate in vape pods, at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. This enforcement action resulted from ongoing risk analysis operations and cross-agency synergy during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday period.

The first enforcement occurred ahead of Eid al-Fitr, specifically on Friday night (20/3/2026). The passenger apprehended was a 39-year-old foreign national with initials CJ, arriving on a flight from Techo International Airport in Cambodia (KTI) to Jakarta (CGK).

The passenger is suspected of acting as a narcotics courier, with evidence consisting of 1.915 grams of Schedule I narcotic MDMA. The illicit substance was concealed within the suitcase lining (false concealment) to evade inspection officers.

In addition to this enforcement, on Tuesday afternoon (24/3/2026), Soekarno-Hatta Customs conducted another operation. This time, it targeted a package declared as toys destined for Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

Upon inspection of the package, officers discovered additional items: eight vape pods containing Schedule II narcotic liquid etomidate, using the method of false declaration. As a follow-up, Soekarno-Hatta Customs again collaborated with the Airport Police Resort’s Narcotics Unit for case development, successfully apprehending one 33-year-old Indonesian male with initials JS as the recipient of the shipped package.

The uncovering of these cases stemmed from analysis and inspections by Soekarno-Hatta Customs officers during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday period. Surveillance yielded information focusing on the passenger and the shipped goods.

Based on intelligence analysis and profiling results, both were designated as operational targets. In response, Soekarno-Hatta Customs provided special attention to the passenger and the shipped package.

On separate occasions, the Customs team conducted thorough inspections of both, uncovering elements of narcotics smuggling. Subsequently, Soekarno-Hatta Customs coordinated with the Airport Police Resort’s Narcotics Unit for investigation and network exposure.

Head of Soekarno-Hatta Customs Office, Hengky Tomuan Parlindungan Aritonang, emphasised that this enforcement demonstrates Customs’ commitment to safeguarding the nation’s entry points from the circulation of dangerous narcotics.

“Every successful prevention of narcotics smuggling saves the nation’s youth from the destructive impact of drugs. This is a form of state protection for the public,” he stated.

These two enforcements are estimated to have saved approximately 3,192 lives of the nation’s youth from the dangers of narcotics. Currently, all suspects and evidence have been handed over to the Airport Police Resort’s Narcotics Unit for further development. For their actions, all suspects are charged under Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, facing maximum penalties of death or life imprisonment.

Hengky noted that the success of these narcotics enforcements is inseparable from the utilisation of data, intelligence analysis, effective thorough inspections, and close inter-agency cooperation. “We will continue to strengthen risk-based surveillance and synergy with other law enforcement agencies to ensure Indonesia does not become a destination for international narcotics networks,” said Hengky.
