Jakarta – The tradition of mudik (homecoming) forms an inseparable part of Indonesian society’s life in the run-up to Eid al-Fitr. During this period, millions of people undertake journeys to various regions to reunite with family in their home villages.

This high mobility is accompanied by various travel risks, ranging from the potential for accidents, travel delays, to declining health conditions during the journey.

“The protection value provided is quite comprehensive and beneficial for those travelling during mudik, as the benefits are in the form of allowances that can provide double coverage and serve as a complement to insurance you already have,” said Head of Travel Management & Direct Retail at PT Sompo Insurance Indonesia Maria Susana, through a statement released on Monday (16 March 2026).

According to Maria, mudik travel is not merely about mobility towards home villages, but also involves various aspects that often escape attention.

These risks can emerge from the moment travel begins, whether on the roads or whilst at airports, train stations, or terminals. Additionally, there are other matters frequently overlooked, such as the condition of homes left vacant, health during travel, and preparedness for emergency situations.

For this reason, preparation before departure becomes important so that the mudik journey can proceed more smoothly.

One simple step that can be taken is to create a preparation checklist before departure. This list can include personal items such as toiletries, medicines, important documents, and ensuring the home is in a safe condition before being left behind.

Maria added that many travellers depart in a hurry, resulting in inadequate preparation. This occurs not only on long-distance journeys, but also on relatively short trips such as to Bogor or Bandung.

Because the distances are considered not too far, some people tend to underestimate the potential risks that can occur during travel.

However, risks can still emerge at any time, whether on short or long journeys, such as accidents, travel delays, or sudden health deterioration.

The programme also provides health allowances if the insured person falls ill during the travel period.

The Sompo Mudik Programme is offered with premiums starting from Rp 15,000 for 14-day coverage and Rp 25,000 for 30-day coverage.

The programme can be accessed by contacting Sompo Care 14051 or through the link https://bit.ly/SOMPOMUDIK2026.

Additionally, the public can also access the programme through the official Instagram account @sompoindonesia or by scanning the barcode available on digital screens at various Indomaret outlets.

This protection package is available for the public aged 3 to 60 years and can be obtained until 5 April 2026.

Maria added that the public can still obtain Sompo Mudik Programme coverage even if they already have similar travel insurance elsewhere.

Additionally, policyholders can still make claims even if they already have other insurance protection.

As public mobility increases during the Eid season, several insurance companies are also launching similar programmes to provide additional protection for mudik travellers.
