Eid Holiday Money Circulation Predicted at Rp 190 Trillion, Golden Opportunity for MSMEs
Jakarta — The circulation of money during the 1447 Hijri Eid holiday, projected to reach Rp 190 trillion, presents a golden opportunity for micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) operators to generate significant income.
Temmy Satya Permana, deputy in the small business division of the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, stated that the projected money circulation figure is higher than previous years despite an anticipated reduction in the number of holiday travellers.
“In 2026, 143-144 million people will be travelling for the Eid holiday with an estimated money circulation reaching Rp 190 trillion,” Temmy said during a breaking of the fast event at Smesco Labo, Jakarta, on Tuesday (10 March 2026).
Whilst the number of travellers has decreased this year to 144 million people, the money circulation is expected to be higher. “This is evidenced by data from Bank Indonesia showing that BI has allocated Rp 180.9 trillion in cash for this Eid season,” Temmy explained.
Of the hundreds of millions of holiday travellers, approximately 76.7 million are expected to use private vehicles and stop at rest areas. Additionally, 6.4 million travellers will use ports, 5.98 million will use airports, and 2.12 million will use train stations.
Of this total, 68.9 per cent or 99 million people are concentrated on the island of Java. Temmy emphasised that MSME operators must capitalise on this massive movement of people.
“With such large numbers of potential consumers heading to these significant locations, MSME operators are obligated to seize this opportunity,” Temmy stated. “Particularly in public infrastructure and tourism destinations, as well as shopping centres in destination cities,” he added.
Approximately 25.09 million travellers are headed to West Java, 38.71 million to Central Java, 27.29 million to East Java, and 8.2 million to Yogyakarta.
The government estimates that 3.6 million vehicles will depart from Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (the Jabodetabek region) via toll roads. Many of these travellers are expected to stop at rest areas, creating opportunities for MSMEs.
However, Temmy acknowledged that MSMEs will face competition from major brands such as McDonald’s, KFC, and Solaria operating at rest areas. “The competition is not only among MSMEs themselves, but also with large enterprises operating at rest areas,” he noted.
