Eid al-Fitr Homecoming 2026: Land Transport Passengers Reach 1.5 Million People
The movement of Eid homecomers using land transport during Lebaran 2026 shows a significant increasing trend. This mode of transportation remains one of the primary choices for the public to undertake homecoming journeys, both for intercity buses and travel services. Based on data from the Ministry of Transportation, the cumulative number of land transport passengers from H-8 to H-1, or 13–20 March 2026, reached 1,587,060 people. Compared to the total movement of public transport passengers reaching 10,003,583 people, the contribution of land transport is around 15–16% of all modes of transportation. This means that about one in six homecomers using public transport chooses the land route as their mode of travel. In addition, ease of access to terminals and the variety of route options also serve as supporting factors. On H-1 of Lebaran or 20 March 2026 alone, the number of land transport passengers reached 161,054 people. Of that total, 145,340 people used buses, while 15,714 others chose travel services. The Head of the Bureau of Communication and Public Information of the Ministry of Transportation, Ernita Titis Dewi, reminded the public to start anticipating the return flow, which is expected to peak on H+3 of Lebaran. She also emphasised the importance of personal preparedness before travelling, from physical condition to the equipment brought. “Compliance with instructions from on-site officials is also key to maintaining the smoothness, safety, and comfort of travel during the 2026 Lebaran return flow,” she said.
