JAKARTA - The flow of Eid al-Fitr homecoming in 2026 is once again posing a challenge for intercity interprovincial (AKAP) bus operators. Several classic problems persist and are considered increasingly complex due to a lack of cross-sectoral coordination.

Chairman of the Indonesian Young Bus Entrepreneurs Association (IPOMI) Kurnia Lesani Adnan stated that one of the main obstacles is at the crossings.

He assessed that the arrangements made have not been able to anticipate the surge in vehicle traffic.

In addition, traffic conditions on land routes are also under scrutiny, particularly in Sumatra.

The East Trans-Sumatra route from South Sumatra to Jambi is said to be experiencing severe congestion due to minimal interprovincial coordination.

Adnan assessed that the root of the problem is not only in the field but also in policy-making at the central level.

He emphasised the importance of firm and synchronised decisions across ministries to anticipate the surge in public mobility.

According to him, the lack of synchronisation is evident in the setting of holiday schedules and traffic engineering policies that do not align.

This causes initial calculations to go awry and impacts density on the ground.

β€œIn fact, on the 17th, I still found goods transport vehicles that are prohibited under the joint ministerial decree freely operating without any enforcement,” said Kurnia.

Furthermore, Adnan emphasised that congestion during homecoming on Java Island is not solely caused by logistics transport.

He assessed that the dominance of private vehicles and weak policy synchronisation are the main factors behind traffic density.
