The Ministry of Transportation has recorded a continuous increase in the number of Eid al-Fitr homecomers departing via public transport during the 2026 Lebaran flow. The Integrated Lebaran Transport Centre Post 2026/1447 H reported a total of 6,251,806 passengers departing from 13 March 2026 (H-8) to 17 March 2026 (H-4). This figure represents a 10.98% increase compared to the same period in the 2025 Lebaran transport, which recorded 5,633,141 passengers.

Head of the Bureau of Communication and Public Information of the Ministry of Transportation, Ernita Titis Dewi, stated that the increase in passenger movement from H-8 to H-4 indicates that the public is starting to undertake the homecoming journey more simultaneously, especially as 18 March 2026 enters the joint leave period for Nyepi.

“The upward trend shows that the public has conducted homecoming earlier, taking advantage of the work from anywhere (WFA) policy and joint leave,” said Titis, quoted from a written statement on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.

Among the five monitored modes, Titis said rail transport had the highest growth. The number of train passengers reached 1,863,782 people, an increase of 15.67% from last year’s 1,611,291 people.

Passenger increases also occurred in air transport, recording 1,424,872 passengers or up 8.14% from 1,317,557 passengers in 2025. Sea transport reached 527,535 people, up 10.50% from 477,418 people.

Meanwhile, for ferry transport, 1,511,072 people were recorded, an increase of 11.27% compared to 1,358,016 people last year. Land transport reached 924,545 passengers, up 6.41% from 868,839 passengers in the same period the previous year.

The Ministry of Transportation, Titis continued, is paying attention to several points that have the potential for congestion, particularly Gilimanuk Port and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport. These two transport hubs are a focus because operations will be affected by closures during the Nyepi celebration.

From the service side, she mentioned that public transport operations remain well-maintained. On 17 March 2026 (H-4), the on-time performance (OTP) was recorded at 95.90% for intercity trains and 99.20% for urban regional rail services.

For flights, domestic OTP reached 81.81% and international flights 70.45%. Sea transport OTP was 95.82%, ferry 95.09%, and road transport 71.92%.

In addition to monitoring traffic density, the Ministry of Transportation is also overseeing weather factors and geological conditions that could affect transport operations. On H-4 of Lebaran 2026, volcanic ash dispersion from Mount Ibu in Halmahera and Mount Semeru was observed, impacting several flight routes, although transport services generally continued to run.

“The Ministry of Transportation urges the public to always monitor the latest official information from operators and on-site officers, and to comply with all instructions for the smooth and comfortable collective journey of the 2026 Lebaran homecoming,” said Titis.
