PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has ensured that supplies of petroleum and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) remain secure throughout Ramadan until Eid al-Fitr 2026. The public has been asked not to worry about the exodus of homebound travellers as energy availability has been prepared well in advance.

The Chief Executive Officer of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Mars Ega Legowo Putra, stated that the company has activated a Ramadan and Eid Task Force (Satgas) from 9 March until 1 April 2026. This task force is responsible for ensuring smooth energy distribution during the exodus and return migration periods.

“We guarantee the security of our fuel and LPG stocks. The public need not panic. This preparedness has been arranged well before Ramadan, even since the Christmas and New Year period,” said Ega during a media briefing on the 2026 Ramadan and Eid Task Force readiness at Pertamina Rest Area petrol station KM 57A, Cikampek, West Java, on Monday (16 March 2026).

Pertamina projects that public energy consumption will increase during the exodus season. Petrol consumption is estimated to rise approximately 12 per cent compared to the average daily normal level, whilst LPG is projected to increase by around 4-5 per cent. Conversely, diesel consumption is predicted to fall approximately 14.5 per cent due to operational restrictions on logistics vehicles.

To anticipate this surge in demand, Pertamina has prepared various supporting infrastructure. Approximately 7,800 petrol stations remain operational, supplemented by thousands of LPG agents and additional services such as fuel delivery services and standby fuel trucks at several points along the exodus routes.

Eko Ricky Susanto, Director of Retail Marketing at Pertamina Patra Niaga, stated that the trend in fuel consumption has begun increasing approaching the peak exodus period. Until mid-March, fuel sales were recorded to have increased approximately 6.1 per cent compared to the same period last year, particularly in the petrol category such as Pertalite and Pertamax.

“Although roads are not yet particularly congested, the sales trend is already increasing. This indicates that public mobility is beginning to shift towards Eid,” he said.

Pertamina has also prepared a number of mitigation measures to ensure energy distribution is not disrupted. Refinery production is currently being run at maximum capacity of approximately 1.1 million barrels per day to ensure fuel availability in various regions.

Additionally, supply procurement is being conducted through long-term contracts that have been prepared since the beginning of the year, so as not to be significantly affected by global geopolitical dynamics.

On the other hand, Pertamina acknowledged that it still receives reports of difficulty in obtaining diesel in some regions, including along the Sumatra route. According to the company, this condition is more related to field distribution oversight.

“If it is available at retailers but difficult at petrol stations, it means oversight needs to be tightened. We will conduct profiling of unusual transactions and coordinate with law enforcement and local government,” said Eko.

Energy analyst Sofyano Zakaria considered the readiness of infrastructure and fuel stocks to be an important factor in maintaining smooth travel for the public during the exodus. He appreciated the steps taken by the government and Pertamina in preparing energy supplies in advance.

“From our monitoring results, the government and Pertamina have already demonstrated their commitment to preparing reliable fuel supplies for Eid services,” he said.

Energy distribution during the Eid exodus period will continue to be monitored through the Ramadan and Eid Task Force to ensure the public’s needs remain met.
