EGI Resources Develops Indonesian-Themed Hotel in Samarkand, Expands into Central Asia
Jakarta (ANTARA) - EGI Resources has officially expanded its business operations into Central Asia by entering the property and hospitality sectors in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. This expansion focuses on developing a rapidly growing religious tourism destination in the region.
This strategic move was marked by the signing of two cooperation agreements at the Uzbekistan–Indonesia Cooperation Forum 2026 held in Jakarta. The initiatives include the construction of a new hotel as well as the acquisition of existing property assets.
In the development project, EGI Foods and Beverages LLC has partnered with Hamkorbank to build an international-standard hotel in the Imam Bukhari Mausoleum complex area, known as one of the main pilgrimage centres in Central Asia.
Additionally, through its entity ARSLAN AIR LLC, EGI Resources has acquired a hotel asset from Trastbank JSC. The property will be revitalised with a new concept that highlights Indonesian cultural identity.
CEO of EGI Resources, Erslan Gazali Ibrahim, stated that the developed hotel will bear the name “Hotel Kampoeng Indonesia” with an international service concept blended with typical Indonesian hospitality.
“This concept is presented to provide a different experience for tourists, especially in the continuously developing religious destination,” he said.
From the bilateral relations perspective, the project has received support from the local government, as evidenced by the presence of Samarkand Governor A.M. Boboyev and Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Indonesia Oybek Eshonov at the cooperation signing.
EGI Resources’ management assesses that this expansion not only opens new business opportunities but also has the potential to strengthen investment flows between Indonesia and Uzbekistan, particularly in the tourism and lifestyle sectors.
Looking ahead, the company is optimistic that the integrated religious tourism ecosystem development in Samarkand will serve as a strategic gateway for Indonesian businesses to expand their footprint in the international market.
