Education Minister strengthens child protection in digital era, supports PP Tunas regulation
Jakarta – The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu’ti has strengthened protection for children in the digital realm as an expression of support for the implementation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on “Tunggu Anak Siap” (PP Tunas).
The ministry expressed full support for PP Tunas implementation through strengthened regulations within educational institutions, including the issuance of Education Ministry Regulation No. 6 of 2026 on establishing Safe and Comfortable School Culture (BSAN).
“We are undertaking these efforts to build a school culture where an atmosphere of mutual respect and mutual honour grows, and to make schools a second home for our children,” said Minister Mu’ti in Jakarta on Saturday.
In implementing this, the ministry has developed governance applying nine main principles, ranging from humanistic to inclusive approaches.
This step, he said, is expected to integrate character education with the responsible use of digital technology, whilst restricting social media use for children under the age of 16 years.
On the same occasion, Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection Arifatul Choiri Fauzi noted that one solution involves maximising the use of traditional games.
She assessed that traditional games possess profound philosophy in building the character of Indonesian children and instilling Pancasila values.
“Through traditional games, children learn to queue and show respect without regard to cultural background. This can be one solution to reduce gadget use among children,” said Arifatul.
Through cross-ministerial coordination, the ministry hopes the implementation of PP Tunas can create comprehensive protection for Indonesian children.
