Education Minister Reminds Students Not to Spend Eid Holiday on Devices
The Education Minister has emphasised that the Eid celebration and associated collective holidays should be utilised by students for meaningful activities, as outlined in the Joint Circular on Learning During Ramadan for the Islamic Year 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE.
“Make maximum use of your time to carry out beneficial activities. Do not spend time playing with devices,” said Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Mu’ti in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He therefore reminded parents and families to monitor and limit the duration of device usage (screen time) among students during the Eid holiday at home.
In line with this appeal, he stated that the mudik (homecoming journey), which is inseparable from the Eid holiday period, can actually serve as a learning opportunity for students, particularly in building relationships and social cohesion.
Moreover, he continued, the mudik activity can also function as a medium for socialising and internalising national values and culture to children, including a culture of reading enthusiasm and literacy.
“We also provide opportunities for students to learn in their home villages. This is what I believe is important for us to emphasise, so that mudik does not merely become an activity where we return to our home villages, but also a medium for internalising the noble values and culture of our nation that we must preserve and continue to safeguard together,” he said.
The ministry hopes that mudik will not become a moment for students to spend time solely playing with devices, but rather a means to strengthen social relations with both immediate and extended family members.
