Education for the deaf

Education for the deaf

From Kompas

For the past few years I have been monitoring vocational
education programs for deaf children, mainly because I teach at a
school for the deaf. Their education cannot be ignored because
they must have skills to support themselves after leaving school.

For this reason I have included sewing in our curriculum and
have modified my class to suit their special needs. Their parents
-- many of whom have difficulty dealing with their disabled
children, particularly after they finish elementary school --
have been quite please with the results. I hope other schools are
being inventive with their programs and helping to build skills
that will serve their students in the working world.
