Economic Mission in Kazan: Coordinating Minister Airlangga Secures Strategic Indonesia-Russia Commitments
The Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Russian Federation organised the 14th Indonesia-Russia Joint Commission Meeting on Trade, Economic, and Technical Cooperation in Kazan, Russian Federation, on Tuesday (12/5/2026).
The meeting was held to strengthen Indonesia’s economic engagement in the Eurasian region and support preparations for the implementation of the Indonesia-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (Indonesia-EAEU FTA).
The Joint Commission Meeting, conducted on the sidelines of the Kazan Forum 2026, was co-chaired by Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, and Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Denis Manturov.
The 14th Indonesia-Russia Joint Commission Meeting is an annual event and serves as a strategic momentum to reinforce the direction of economic partnership between the two countries amid global economic dynamics.
The meeting also followed up on the directives from the leaders of both countries after the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and President Vladimir Putin on 13 April 2026.
The plenary session discussed the development of bilateral economic relations between the two countries, as well as future priority agendas.
Several agendas discussed included the trade and investment sectors, agriculture and fisheries, energy, industry, higher education and science, as well as strengthening engagement among business actors.
Airlangga emphasised that the 14th Indonesia-Russia Joint Commission Meeting reflects the continuity of commitments from both countries to strengthen more concrete and mutually beneficial economic cooperation.
This aligns with the momentum of the 76th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year.
Furthermore, Airlangga stated that amid the current global order and dynamics, Indonesia is also promoting cooperation oriented towards mutual interests, one of which is through the utilisation of the Indonesia-EAEU FTA.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Manturov encouraged renewed active participation for the development of cooperation between the two countries in the future, enhancing various achievements of cooperation that have been attained, and continuing to commit to seeking potentials that can be further developed going forward.
Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Trade, Dyah Roro Esti, added that trade relations between Indonesia and EAEU countries continue to show positive developments. This is because there are broad market access opportunities for various national flagship products, such as palm oil or coconut products.
