East Java Provincial Government Strengthens Research Collaboration and Downstreaming with BRIN
Surabaya (ANTARA) - The East Java Provincial Government (Pemprov Jatim) is strengthening its collaboration on research and innovation downstreaming with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to encourage the utilisation of appropriate technology that impacts society and regional development.
“This meeting is a strategic step to strengthen the research and innovation ecosystem in East Java while promoting the utilisation of appropriate technology, particularly to support sustainable regional economic growth,” said East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa in a statement received in Surabaya on Monday.
Khofifah assessed that strengthening the utilisation of innovation products from research, development, studies, and the application of science and technology is essential to provide tangible contributions to national development and enhance the nation’s competitiveness.
“Therefore, the most important thing is how research results can be accessed, utilised, and developed together by all layers of society,” she said.
According to her, East Java has great potential to accelerate the downstreaming of research results through collaboration with BRIN, which possesses around 6,000 intellectual assets in various sectors, from food, health, energy, environment, maritime technology to waste processing.
“BRIN has thousands of innovation products ranging from research on food sovereignty, energy resilience, health, strengthening strategic industries, and many others,” she added.
Khofifah stated that one potential area for cooperation that can be developed is research collaboration on medical devices between BRIN and Dr. Soetomo General Hospital (RSUD) in Surabaya.
“There is one flagship research and innovation product owned by BRIN called Bone Implant, a high-quality material solution for bone reconstruction due to injuries. Innovation and health technology products like this could be an opportunity for collaboration,” she continued.
In addition to the health sector, Khofifah also highlighted BRIN’s food saver innovation, which she believes can support efficient food storage and maintain commodity quality for longer.
“The food saver innovation, a flagship research and innovation product of BRIN. This is a technology for storing rice, eggs, and food warehouses so that product quality is maintained longer,” she said.
Meanwhile, BRIN Head Arif Satria appreciated the support from the East Java Provincial Government in strengthening the research and innovation ecosystem in the region.
“Thank you to the Governor for her support to us in collaborating with BRIN, particularly in strengthening research and promoting innovation downstreaming,” said Arif.
He affirmed that BRIN will continue to open opportunities for cooperation with local governments so that research results can be implemented in practice and directly felt by the community.
“In the future, strategic inputs related to technology and innovation will continue to be developed, of course, by collaborating with local governments so that the results can truly be felt directly by the community,” he said.
