East Java Provincial Government Concerned over KPK's Arrest of Tulungagung Regent, Awaits Legal Determination
The East Java Provincial Government (Pemprov Jatim) has expressed concern over the arrest of Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo in a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) sting operation (OTT). “I have been following and received information about this from the mass media this morning. We are also concerned about this,” said the Head of the Legal Bureau of Pemprov Jatim, Adi Saronosaat, when providing a statement to the media on Saturday (11/4). Adi explained that they are currently monitoring developments on the ground. They have not yet taken further policy steps because they are respecting the ongoing investigation process at the anti-corruption agency. According to him, Pemprov Jatim is fully entrusting the legal process to the KPK. He also emphasised the importance of legal status certainty in the near future to determine administrative steps for the government in Tulungagung Regency. “It is important to wait for developments on the legal status from the KPK in the next 24 hours,” he said. Previously, the KPK arrested Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo in a sting operation (OTT) on Friday (10/4) night. In the operation, the KPK claimed to have seized a sum of cash. “In addition to securing the parties involved, the team also secured evidence in the form of cash,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Saturday (11/4). Budi said that a total of 13 people, out of the 18 arrested in the OTT last night, were brought to the KPK building in Jakarta for further examination. “Thirteen people, including the regent who arrived this morning in the first phase, followed by 11 people in the second phase this afternoon, and one person in the third phase,” he said.
