East Jakarta's Satpol PP cracks down on street vendors and illegal parking in Duren Sawit
Jakarta – The City Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) and other joint personnel conducted a crackdown on street vendors (PKL) and illegal parking as part of the Bina Tertib Praja operation in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta. ‘Today, we, together with the joint personnel, conducted the Bina Tertib Praja operation in the Duren Sawit district, targeting street vendors (PKL) and illegal parking,’ said Tanjani, head of the Implementing Unit (Kasatpel) of Satpol PP in Malaka Jaya, Jakarta, on Wednesday. The operation was conducted under Regional Regulation (Perda) No. 8 of 2007 on Public Order. During the operation, officers issued warnings and took action against violations observed on the ground. For offending PKL, officers issued yellow cards and a written statement not to return to selling at the prohibited location. For illegal parking, officers carried out a tire-valve removal operation (OCP) as a direct on-the-spot sanction. The measure is intended to deter offenders. ‘We will continue to urge PKL and illegal parking offenders… There are sanctions such as yellow cards, written statements, up to tire-valve removal operations,’ said Tanjani. ‘Yes, this is also the viral part. We take action with OCP and issue a warning to the building owner to provide parking facilities,’ he added. The business owner has been warned to promptly provide adequate parking facilities so that they no longer use the road or sidewalks for parking. ‘According to the owner, they will seek parking space in the near future,’ said Tanjani. Going forward, Satpol PP has assured that enforcement will be carried out periodically. Officers will also increase routine patrols at violation-prone locations. ‘This activity will continue. Personnel will patrol. If violations are found, we will act immediately. For illegal parking we will carry out OCP, for others we will bring them into line,’ said Tanjani. It is hoped that public order in Duren Sawit will be maintained and the rights of pedestrians to use the sidewalks will no longer be disrupted by illegal parking or the activities of non-compliant PKL. In this operation, 25 personnel were deployed from the Duren Sawit sub-district, the local Polsek, the local Department of Transportation (Dishub), and the Sub-district Satpol PP. A video posted on the Instagram account @jakarta.terkini shows motorcycles parked on the sidewalk and a truck suspected of loading/unloading blocking the pedestrian path in the area. Several two-wheeled vehicles were also seen blocking pedestrian access, prompting residents’ complaints.
