Jakarta – Harlem, head of the East Jakarta Transportation Sub-Agency (Sudinhub), has urged the public not to park vehicles illegally in front of the East Jakarta Metro Police Station and surrounding areas, as no-parking signs are clearly displayed at the location.

“Please park in designated areas nearby—there is a mall (Ciplaz), a market with parking spaces—please use those locations,” Harlem said when met at the East Jakarta Mayor’s Office on Thursday (12 March 2026).

“However, violations persist because we understand the location offers various services: the police station, a health centre, a post office, and a market,” Harlem noted.

He confirmed that law enforcement would continue to be applied in accordance with regulations.

This morning, his agency deployed 75 Transportation Sub-Agency personnel, assisted by 25 personnel from the military and police, to conduct enforcement operations.

“Today, four four-wheeled vehicles were towed and taken to the East Jakarta Transportation Sub-Agency office for further enforcement proceedings,” he explained.

Previously, parking along Jalan Matraman Raya, specifically in front of the East Jakarta Metro Police Station, had drawn attention after a video went viral on social media. The recording, uploaded by Instagram account @ijooel, showed numerous vehicles using half the roadway for parking despite visible no-parking signs.

The video depicted rows of vehicles parked along Jalan Matraman Raya, from in front of the East Jakarta Health Sub-Agency building to the Jatinegara Market area, all whilst no-parking signage was clearly visible.

However, several police-owned vehicles remained parked on the roadside directly in front of the East Jakarta Metro Police Station. Additionally, motorcycles and cars were parked on pavements, obstructing pedestrian passage.

“In front of East Jakarta Police Station, parking takes up half the road. It was orderly for a while, but then it went back to this. At night the parking is even more chaotic on the other side. It needs to be managed properly,” the @ijooel Instagram account stated.

When Kompas.com observed the area on Thursday (12 March 2026), several vehicles belonging to the East Jakarta Metro Police Station remained parked on the roadside despite no-parking signs. Additionally, motorcycles and cars were parked in front of the building and on pavements around the police station.

In front of the East Jakarta Health Sub-Agency building, no parked vehicles were visible. The area had been cordoned off with traffic cones.
