East Jakarta Petrol Station Worker Allegedly Assaulted After Refusing Subsidised Fuel to Ineligible Vehicle
A petrol station employee in the Cipinang area of East Jakarta was assaulted by a motorist seeking to fill up with fuel. The attack was captured on CCTV and has since gone viral on social media.
Based on footage reviewed on Tuesday (24/2/2026), the assault reportedly took place on Sunday evening (22/2). The video shows a man, believed to be the vehicle’s owner, initially approaching a station attendant. The two appeared to engage in conversation.
During the exchange, the man was seen pointing his finger at the attendant’s face before striking the worker. After the assault, the man briefly returned to his car before exiting again holding a bag.
He then approached the petrol station worker once more, continuing to gesture aggressively and chase the attendant. Shortly afterwards, the man left the station on foot, leaving his vehicle behind. Upon returning, he was seen pointing at another man at the scene.
East Jakarta Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigation Unit chief AKBP Dicky Fertoffan confirmed the incident. Dicky explained that the assault was triggered after the station attendant declined to fill the man’s vehicle with fuel because the car’s licence plate did not correspond to its designated eligibility category.
“Yes, we are currently investigating. The individual wanted to fill up with Pertalite but was refused service by the station. The licence plate did not match — it was not designated for that purpose,” Dicky said.
Dicky added that his team is still conducting an investigation to identify the suspected assailant.
“The investigation is ongoing,” he said.
