Jakarta (ANTARA) - East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin has banned sacrificial animal traders from using sidewalks or public facilities as selling locations ahead of Eid al-Adha. “The appeal is not to utilise public facilities because it will disrupt other users of those facilities,” Munjirin said at Kramat Jati Market, East Jakarta, on Monday. According to him, using sidewalks, parks, and other public areas for trading activities will interfere with the primary function of facilities intended for the general public. Therefore, traders are asked to find suitable locations that do not hinder residents’ activities. In addition, the East Jakarta City Government is monitoring sacrificial animal trading activities that could violate regulations, especially those using sidewalks and public open spaces as selling spots. “We will definitely warn them to find other locations for everyone’s comfort,” Munjirin stated. This enforcement, he said, is carried out to maintain general order, the comfort of pedestrians, and to ensure public facilities can be used as intended. Moreover, the presence of sacrificial animal stalls on sidewalks or in parks is considered potentially to cause traffic congestion and disrupt environmental cleanliness. The East Jakarta City Government also urges sacrificial animal traders to coordinate with sub-district or district officials before setting up sales stalls. This way, the chosen business locations do not violate regulations and still consider aspects of security, cleanliness, and comfort for surrounding residents. Previously, the East Jakarta City Government had equipped sacrificial committees through socialisation on handling and slaughtering sacrificial animals ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah. In addition, the East Jakarta Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Sub-Department (KPKP) has begun comprehensive inspections of sacrificial animals to ensure their health condition and suitability for sacrifice in accordance with Islamic law. The inspections cover the physical condition of cattle, from teeth, mouth, ears, hooves and legs, tail, anus, genitals to other body organs. The health inspections of sacrificial animals have started since 27 April 2026 and will continue until 26 May 2026. Officials also provide vitamins to animals that are fatigued after long journeys from their origins to restore their condition to optimal. Besides that, the East Jakarta KPKP Sub-Department is also affixing stickers for Animal Health Certificates (SKKH) at several sacrificial animal sales locations that have been declared healthy and fit for sale ahead of this year’s Eid al-Adha.
