Jakarta — The East Jakarta municipal government has taken enforcement action against six inter-city, inter-provincial buses (AKAP) found operating at an unauthorised terminal at the Rebo Market Flyover intersection.

“In the operation, officers successfully took action against six AKAP buses that were operating at the Rebo Market intersection seeking passengers,” said Harlem Simanjuntak, head of the East Jakarta sub-district transportation office, in Jakarta on Tuesday.

One fleet was forced to cease operations after its vehicle documentation was found to lack proper route permits. The remaining five fleets were issued traffic citations for picking up and dropping off passengers at locations other than official bus stops.

The enforcement action was conducted in preparation for the Eid holiday exodus for 1447 Hijri. The East Jakarta Transportation Office continues to ensure that transportation activities run in an orderly and safe manner for residents undertaking holiday journeys.

“We will intensify raids on shadow terminals ahead of this Eid holiday exodus,” Simanjuntak said.

Shadow terminals not only violate regulations but also pose potential risks to passenger safety. Additionally, such activities can trigger traffic congestion at accident-prone locations.

Simanjuntak expressed concern that several fleets operating at shadow terminals may not meet road safety standards or lack complete official documentation.

Meanwhile, Emiral August Dwinanto, head of operations at the East Jakarta Transportation Office, explained that the enforcement action was conducted as part of the Cross-Jakarta Operation, which involved approximately 40 combined personnel.

Emiral hopes that this regularly conducted operation will serve as a deterrent to bus drivers and operators who continue to violate regulations.

“This way, traffic order and passenger safety can be better assured,” he said.

According to him, monitoring will continue to be tightened as public mobility increases ahead of Eid, as the volume of holiday travellers is expected to continue rising in the coming weeks.

Through this enforcement action, Emiral hopes that the public will use official public transportation modes with guaranteed safety when travelling home for the holidays.
