Jakarta – The East Jakarta municipal government (Pemkot) is ensuring the safety of food products circulating in several modern markets ahead of the National Religious Holidays (HBKN), specifically Eid al-Fitr 2026.

“This integrated food safety inspection is conducted to ensure that food products circulating in modern markets are safe for public consumption, particularly ahead of the HBKN, when food demand typically increases,” said Taufik Yulianto, Head of the East Jakarta Sub-Office for Food Security, Marine Affairs, and Agriculture (KPKP), when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The East Jakarta KPKP Sub-Office conducted integrated food safety inspections on Monday (9 March) across five modern markets in the East Jakarta area.

“We are working to protect the public from food sold freely that contains harmful substances unsuitable for consumption,” stated Taufik.

The five modern markets subject to inspection were Lotte Grosir Pasar Rebo, Naga Swalayan Ciracas, Transmart Cijantung, Superindo Titanium Square, and Hypermart Cibubur Junction.

During the operation, officers collected numerous samples from various food commodities sourced from the agricultural, livestock, and fishery sectors. Commodities tested included vegetables, fruits, fish, prawns, fish meatballs, chicken meat, beef, hoof and connective tissues, and organ meats.

Taufik explained that the food samples were then tested using rapid testing methods to detect possible harmful substances such as pesticide residues, formalin, borax, chlorine, and other prohibited chemicals in food products.

“The types of testing conducted include pesticide residues on agricultural products and formalin, borax, chlorine, and other harmful substances on fresh and processed food products,” Taufik clarified.

The samples comprised 41 agricultural commodity samples, 15 livestock commodity samples, and 4 fishery commodity samples.

In detail, at Lotte Grosir Pasar Rebo, officers collected 18 samples comprising 10 agricultural samples, 4 livestock samples, and 4 fishery samples. All inspected samples showed negative results for harmful substances.

At Naga Swalayan Ciracas, 13 samples were collected comprising 9 agricultural samples and 4 livestock samples. Testing results showed all samples were declared safe.

At Superindo Titanium Square, officers collected 12 samples comprising 9 agricultural samples and 3 livestock samples. All samples tested negative for harmful substances.

At Transmart Cijantung, inspections involved collecting 7 samples comprising 6 agricultural samples and 1 livestock sample. Testing results also showed all samples were safe.

At Hypermart Cibubur Junction, officers collected 10 samples comprising 7 agricultural samples and 3 livestock samples. All samples tested negative for harmful substances.

“From a total of 60 samples inspected across the five modern markets, all showed negative results for harmful substances, thus achieving 100 per cent food safety,” Taufik stated.

The inspection involved officers from the East Jakarta KPKP Sub-Office, the Jakarta Special Capital Region KPKP Office, Food and Drug Supervision Task Force of Metro Jaya Police, the East Jakarta Mayor’s Economic Affairs Division, and elements of Ciracas District.

Additionally, several Regional Work Units (UKPD) were involved in the inspection, including the Drug and Food Supervision Agency (BPOM), the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Training Centre (PPUMKM), the Civil Police Enforcement Unit (Satpol PP), and the Environmental Agency.

According to Taufik, the integrated inspection represents government efforts to provide public protection whilst ensuring food circulating in the market meets safety standards. Beyond sample testing, officers also provided education to market managers and business operators regarding the importance of maintaining food product quality and safety for consumers.

“Through these inspections, the public need not worry when shopping for food requirements ahead of the HBKN, as products circulating have undergone inspection procedures and been declared safe,” Taufik stated.

He also assured that food inspections will continue on a regular basis, particularly ahead of major religious holidays when food trading activities increase significantly. These measures ensure the public receives food products that are safe, healthy, and fit for consumption.
