East Flores Regent Brings Together Two Village Heads to Quell Conflict in Adonara
The East Flores Regency Government (Pemkab Flores Timur) brought together Yandris Toland, Head of Narasaosina Village, and Muhamad Saleh, Head of Waiburak Village, at the East Adonara Sub-District Office on Monday night (11/5/2026). The meeting served as an effort to mediate the conflict between Narasaosina Village and Waiburak Village, which erupted on Saturday night (9/5/2026). Muhamad Saleh stated that East Flores Regent Anton Doni Dihen emphasised that the peace process would continue alongside law enforcement. “Further mediation through meetings between the two parties to recount the origins of customary land ownership, involving customary leaders from the concerned villages about the local wisdom stories in Adonara,” said Muhamad Saleh when confirmed by detikBali on Tuesday (12/5/2026). Meanwhile, Yandris Toland mentioned that an initial agreement had been reached regarding conflict resolution with the government and Waiburak Village officials. “Agreement on conflict resolution, but as village government, we will follow up with the customary community and customary leaders,” he explained. Based on a video circulating on social media, the peace agreement was led directly by East Flores Deputy Regent Ignasius Boli Uran and witnessed by law enforcement officials and community figures. In the video, Ignasius stressed that inter-village conflicts must not recur as they only cause losses and leave social wounds in the community. “War does not produce winners; there is only material destruction and historical grudges,” said Ignas. Previously, East Flores Regent Antonius Doni Dihen commented on the clash between residents of Narasaosina Village and Waiburak Village in East Adonara, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Antonius asserted that the government would not cover the medical treatment costs for victims of the inter-village clash. “We firmly will not fund treatment resulting from war. Those who decide on war must gentlemanly bear all costs,” said Anton when confirmed by detikBali on Monday (11/5/2026). He assessed that the conflict had harmed the region, including additional costs for security personnel needs. Therefore, according to him, village governments must also share responsibility in maintaining security in their respective areas. Anton even mentioned that the regional government could deduct Village Fund Allocation (ADD) if medical costs for victims were initially covered by the government. “The war has already cost the region, as we funded security personnel consumption. For fairness, we will not fund war victims’ treatment. If indebted, we will cut village fund allocation. Village governments must be responsible for security matters. If you love Lewotana East Flores, stop the war,” Anton stressed. He also urged the community to end the culture of war as a way to resolve issues. According to him, clashes only bring losses and suffering to residents. “War only causes hardship. The pride of Lewo (village) no longer needs to be shown through warlike prowess,” he added.
