E. Timor to have sugar mill
JAKARTA (JP): PT Putra Tunggal Sejati plans to develop a 60- hectare sugarcane plantation in East Timor, with total investment of around Rp 450 billion (US$190 million).
Deputy head of the East Timor Investment Coordinating Board Basyiruddin Yusuf said in Dili over the weekend the company would also set up a sugar mill in Natarbora and Viqueque to support the development of the sugarcane plantation.
"According to the plan, the firm will employ 22,000 workers: 11,000 Indonesian workers and 11,000 foreign workers," he was quoted by Antara as saying.
The mill will produce 160 tons of sugar and 8,100 tons of liquid sugar a year, all for the domestic market.
He said the project, which was approved by the Investment Coordinating Board last month, was expected to be completed in three years, following the approval. (jsk)
