E. Timor has new military chief

DILI: The chief of East Timor's Wira Dharma Military Command, Colonel Mahidin Simbolon, handed over his post here Saturday to Maj. Gen. A. Rivai.

Rivai is also chief of the Udayana Military Command which oversees security in East Timor, Nusa Tenggara and Bali.

Rivai said he would hold the post temporarily until Col. Slamat Sidabutar took over in the near future, Antara reported.

He said the peaceful polling in the youngest province last Thursday proved that security there was stable.
