E. Timor families get livestock

DILI, East Timor: The Ministry of Social Services provincial office will give livestock to 680 families in five regencies of East Timor.

The cows and bulls, imported from East Nusa Tenggara, will arrive in the Baucau, Dili, Bobonaro, Ainaro and Ambeno regencies in January, a spokesman of the office, Dadang Nurmadi, said on Saturday.

Antara reported that Dadang said the livestock will be given to groups of families, each group consisting of 10 families, as an incentive for them to build financial self-sufficiency.

For the 1995/1996 fiscal year, the ministry will also provide construction supplies for 180 families affected by a recent earthquake in the Maubara district, Liquisa regency.

A total of 480 houses were damaged in the disaster. The ministry plans to rebuild 260 houses this fiscal year, and the remaining next year. The project is being supported by the World Vision International organization. (swe)
