E. Jakarta ready for 'Adipura' award

JAKARTA (JP): The East Jakarta Mayoralty is ready to work hard
to retain the Adipuira award for cleanliness from the government,
said Mayor Sudarsono.

In his speech at the commemoration ceremonies for National
Social Solidarity Day in Pinang Ranti subdistrict on Wednesday,
the mayor said that his office has prepared programs for river
cleaning and regreening projects next year.

Antara reported yesterday that city forest regreening programs
will also be enhanced.

East Jakarta received the Adipura award for cleanliness this
year.

The mayor said that by November of this year almost 360,000
trees have been planted in the implementation of the city forest
plan. "The target was only 250,000 trees," he said. "Next year
any empty spaces belonging to the mayoralty will have trees."

He said that the mayoralty took sanitation problems very
seriously, citing weekly community self-help programs to clean up
neighborhoods.

"The mayoralty also cooperates with three firms in dealing
with garbage collections in five areas which produce at least 700
cubic meters of garbage everyday," the mayor said. (sur)
