A Dutch man, Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak (30), appeared in the Denpasar District Court. The 30-year-old man was charged with growing and cultivating dozens of cannabis plants in his rented house, located on Jalan Bina Kusuma IV, Banjar Merta Gangga, Desa Ubung Kaja, Denpasar.

The prosecutor from the Denpasar Prosecutor’s Office explained in the indictment that Nirul grew cannabis on the second floor of the house he rented. This activity was carried out without permission from the authorities and not for research or medicinal purposes.

The case was revealed after the defendant was arrested by the Bali Police on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at around 12:30 pm at the location. Police found various pieces of evidence during the search, ranging from cannabis seeds, fresh and dried cannabis leaves to cannabis plants grown in pots, polybags, and containers.

“In total, there were 14 cannabis plants of various sizes, including six plants with a height of about one meter,” said prosecutor I Made Lovi Puspawan, Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

In addition to the plants, officers also found dozens of cannabis seedlings, consisting of 67 small pots containing plants about 5 centimeters (cm) high and 24 other small pots with a height of about 10 cm. Police also confiscated dried and fresh cannabis leaves with a total net weight of 130.06 grams.

The prosecutor explained that Nirul started growing cannabis in August 2025. Nirul germinated cannabis seeds using wet tissue until they took root, then moved them to a coconut fiber growing medium and cared for them in a black hydroponic tent inside the rented house.

“The defendant routinely watered and fertilized the plants until they grew large. The picked cannabis leaves were stored in plastic clips, while the dried ones were stored in a pot,” said the prosecutor.

For his actions, Nirul was charged with violating Article 111 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, which regulates the prohibition of cultivating, maintaining, possessing, or controlling narcotics of group I in the form of plants without authorization. The prosecutor also filed an alternative charge based on the provisions in the new Criminal Code regarding the possession of narcotics of group I without authorization.
